CYC's Sailing Season is winding down.
The Ancient Mariner's Race was held on Sunday of Labor Day Weekend. Donald Fisher won the event and continues to amaze us all.
The following day the Labor Day Cup was held. Bill Smith placed 1st out of seven sunfish, John Overton topped the laser fleet, Pierce Barden was 1st in 420 and John Sawyer was 1st Lightning.
The James Match Race provided intense competition between eight skippers and their crew in the club's 420's. After a long and hard day of sailing Pierce Barden won the event with crew Tommy Van Arsdale. Congratulations and thanks to all the sailors who competed in this event.
Still some sailing left with the Fall Series. Just completed race 1-5 today. Beautiful day on the water. Doug Sherwood leads the lasers. Richard Waldkirch leads the lightnings. Thanks to Ethel and Lucy for running great races. Two more fall race days left. Come out and join us.

July was a busy month for CYC and its sailors.
Finally got off a sound event with the Independence Day Regatta.
Good crowd of boats and a spectacular sunset at the finish.
Christobal blew out Ocean 3.
Couples race was a blast.
Our junior sailing team headed to Savannah for SYC's Firecracker regatta. Eight kids
participated with 2 bringing home some silver.
Speaking of our juniors, the SAYRA YOUTH Challenge was held at CYC the friday before our
SAYRA Regatta. We co-hosted the event with Lake Norman Yacht Club. 66 juniors sailed in the event with our kids WINNING OVERALL. You have not seen such a happy group of sailors.
Great to see our junior sailors flourishing again.
Finally our SAYRA Regatta was very successful. Heard we had 126 boats and 173 sailors - quite a turnout.
Fantastic day of sailing on Saturday. Good day for the light air specialists on Sunday.
Thanks to all the volunteers who make this event happen and many thanks to Chris and Kevin for getting us through these things. Check the sidebar for results and pictures.
Still plenty of sailing left in August and September. Check the schedule and get out on the water.

JUNE 29, 2008
Unusual June. Our first two sound series races cancelled, the first for too much wind, the second for too much lightning. Fortunately the rest of the month has been great with good racing in Ocean 2 and plenty of fun at funsail. In addition lots of CYC sailors have been on the road traveling to regional events. Most notably there were 18 CYC sailors at the Low Country Regatta in Beaufort , S.C. - including 8 juniors. Great to see our junior program looking healthier. Check the results here. Check CYC's schedule for upcoming events. Have posted the SAYRA OPEN NOR and the James Match Race NOR. We are taking applications for the latter race with plans to sail in
420's - contact the club office for info.

Beautiful start to the 2008 sailing season. Seven Lasers and seven Lightnings competed in 13-18 knots of seabreeze. Pierce Barden and crew topped the Lightning fleet and Martin Willard topped the Laser fleet. Thanks to our new race committee member Ollie , who was a big hit on the signal boat. Check the results and pictures in the sidebar.

Pretty busy winter. Laser sailors completed the frostbite series this Saturday. Results here. Check out the movie of Martin and Glenn match racing downwind in 25 knots. See it here.
Speaking of Martin , he and Eddie Nowell had a great time at the Laser Master Worlds in Australia.
John an Becky Sawyer raced their lightning with Dan Morton in St. Pete - always a challenging venue. Paul Whitesides also did the entire Southern Circuit with the Lightning Class.
Chip Till has been very busy in his new J24 -competing all over the southeast. In fact looks like there is a resurgence of the J24 fleet. Hear a rumor that we may have 12 J's at SAYRA this summer.
Closer to home the new 420's are on the boat lot. Plan on using those boats to really get double handed sailing going. Speaking of the boat lot , thanks to Richard Waldkirch for making the lot more useable.
The CYC schedule is posted. First Ocean race right around the corner. The district laser and lightning sailors are welcome to compete in this series - at no cost.
NOR for CYC's races posted.

Martin Willard training for the Masters Worlds
Just now recovered from New Years Day Race. Was kickoff of our frostbite series. Stanley Hassinger won the day with his consistency. 6 races in gusty conditions - up to 30+ knots measured at the airport. Many elected to use a radial rig. Check the results in the results area and some photos are posted in the photo zone. Thanks to Arland for the pictures. Thanks to Tom Hissam, Kerry and Penny Primmer for running the races.
